2% Short-term rental ordinances passed

Twin Bridges Town Council’s (TBTC) was delayed a week but came back having passed a potentially significant ordinance for the community. Ordinance 2022-02 Short Term Residential Rentals within the city limits of the town of Twin Bridges.

The ordinance is “basically a moratorium on VRBOs (vacation rentals by owners)” Council member Matt Greenmore explained. They had been looking into this matter for approximately two years, leading to the final reading on November 15th. The ordinance is available on the town of Twin Bridges website. A short term rental is defined as ‘a dwelling…or any type of habitable living quarters that are rented for temporary lodging for periods of time of 30 days or less.” (Excluding commercial properties such as motels, bed & breakfasts, etc) and the owner must obtain a license from the town which will be reviewed prior to January 1 each year. Section 2: c. reads “No more than a total of two (2) percent of the habitable living quarters within the Town limits may be used as short-term residential rentals.” There will also be a waiting list created for interested parties moving forward.

The council also passed a storage unit ordinance that defines what can and cannot be used for storage; a car, for instance, cannot be used as a storage unit, and the council agreed to sell the Bull Pen. Other business included approving fences, future work on the library and town updates such as snow removal and preparedness for potential ice jams. A discussion regarding a dedicated sewer line for the fairgrounds was discussed but details from the county were lacking. You can find details on the twinbridgesmt.com website.
